Drywall problems specific to South Florida
Water damage from AC and roof leaks
Air handler condensation lines, roof leaks during storm season, and window leaks are the big three. Wet drywall sags, stains, and grows mildew inside the wall. We cut out damaged material back to dry, sound board, check for mold, replace with new drywall, tape, mud, sand, and texture to match.
Settling cracks in newer homes
New construction in Palm Beach Gardens, Boynton Beach, and western Boca settles for years. Cracks appear at the corners of doors and windows and along ceiling seams. These need flexible mesh tape and a proper three-coat mud job, not a smear of spackle.
Texture matching
Most South Florida homes have knockdown or orange-peel texture, and a smooth patch on a textured wall is obvious from across the room. We match the existing texture with hopper-applied or hand-applied compound so the repair disappears after paint.
Our drywall repair process
- Assess. Find the cause of any water damage before repairing the symptom.
- Cut out and replace. Damaged drywall removed to sound material; new board fitted and fastened.
- Tape and mud. Three coats of joint compound, feathered wide so the patch does not telegraph.
- Sand. Dust-controlled sanding.
- Texture. Matched to the existing wall or ceiling.
- Prime and paint. Patches primed so they do not flash through the finish coat.
